Days Fork - Wasatch Mountains, Utah

Went hiking up a beautiful side canyon that branches off of Big Cottonwood Canyon to the south. Days Fork is approximately 30 min. from downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. Days Fork trail is approximately 4 miles long up to the basin where the Eclipse Mine is located or you can follow the trail over Silver Fork Pass into the canyon to the east, eventually reaching the Big Cottonwood / Little Cottonwood divide near Davenport Peak.

Trail was very steep. Lots of large trees

Can literally get lost in the fall color

Great area for photography

Majority of golden color is from the Aspen trees

Have to be careful traversing back country because many cliffs like this one exist in the area.

Old machinery at the Eclipse Mine site. This mine was located at nearly 10,000 feet elevation.

Giant hoist gear.

My awesome hiking buddy!

Tall slender Aspen require sunlight to survive so the lower trunks are void of branches and leaves while the crown that reaches above the pine canopy provides sustenance for the whole tree.
