IOWA - State Capitol: Des Moines, Iowa

The Iowa State Capitol Building sits at the top of a hill overlooking the Des Moines river and the skyscrapers of downtown Des Moines, providing one of the very best views of Iowa's capitol city. The interior dome is one of the most impressive and beautiful I have ever seen as it is ringed with high windows around the top flanked by red columns. Gold plating, stunning designs and a sky blue mural with an American flag, Eagle and Star adorn the interior cap of the dome. The polished bell of the Battleship Iowa and an enormous incredibly detailed model of this dreadnought are among the many treasures contained within this building. The law library is without a doubt, the most beautiful library I have seen in any state capitol with its winding stair cases, tall windows, colored tile floors and balcony book stacks. If you are ever in Iowa's capitol city, make sure that you make time for a visit to this truly unique and wondrous building.
