IDAHO - Lochsa River
| Understory of Clearwater National Forest near the Lochsa River - Idaho |
The Lochsa River is located in the Clearwater National Forest in North Eastern Idaho. It begins near beautiful Lolo Pass on the Idaho / Montana border drains a large portion of the Selway - Bitteroot Wilderness. U.S. Highway 12 runs through Lolo Pass and there are numerous beautiful overlooks of the Lochsa River below. Once the highway reaches the canyon bottom it follows the course of the river to Lowell Idaho. This area is historically significant because it was traveled by the Lewis and Clark Expedition in September of 1805. Today there is a really neat four season resort mid way along the river called the Lochsa Lodge. This amazing rustic old lodge offers all amenities with rooms and cabins for rent and a tiny general store. Hiking, hunting, fishing, kayaking, white water rafting, cross country skiing, snow shoeing and all kinds of other outdoor activities can be enjoyed there.
