GEORGIA - Ocmulgee

Swampy lowlands near Ocmulgee National Monument, Georgia.

Ocmulgee National Monument is a pre-historic Native American site of the Mississippian culture. There are great earthen temple mounds that remain here and according to the National Park Service, the site has been occupied by humans for over 17,000 years. Some speculate that this site was related to the Cahokia Mounds site in western Illinois. Ocmulgee today is a place of greenery, grassy fields and dense forest. It is very close to Macon, Georgia.
