Golden Sunrise and a chance to start a new - Virginia Beach, Virginia
| Sunrise - Virginia Beach, Virginia |
Had the extreme pleasure of watching the sunrise over
Virginia Beach one winter day. When I woke up it was dark, a cold February wind
was blowing and all I could hear was the constant assault of the waves breaking
upon the sand on the edge of the North American Continent. It was black out on
the Ocean except for the blinking lights of the container ships that were at
anchor off the coast, waiting patiently for their turn to enter the Chesapeake . Then, there
was a hint of light far off to the east. It gradually grew brighter. It
reminded me of when you start a campfire with your match and the kindling
catches just a bit and then you wait, hoping your fire will start and then the
flame grows larger until it engulfs the tinder. It was the same in the eastern
sky on this morning as the brightness on the horizon grew into a dark orange
band sandwiched between the Ocean and the lightening blue sky. All of a sudden
the sun exploded across the horizon as it emerged from the sea. It’s rays
reflected across the water in a seeming golden road, ending at the sandy beach.
I stood there in the cold admiring this scene that I never get to witness being
from the intermountain west. This incredible event ended almost as quickly as
it started. This sunrise at Virginia
Beach is something I will not soon forget. It reminded
me again that every morning is a new day, a new beginning. A clean slate that reminds you that you always have another chance to set things aright in your life if necessary. Something good to
think about when life gets rough.
